Frequently Asked Questions

How does Omira keep my medical data safe? / Does Omira comply with HIPAA?

The database we use - Healthlake - was launched in 2021 and has not had a breach in the time that it has been running. Healthlake was specifically designed with medical data and HIPAA regulations in mind, so yes, it does comply with HIPAA. Our team cannot view any customer’s medical data or use it to advertise or use that information otherwise.

What does O-Chain do?

O-Chain is a panic button. When in an emergency - medical or otherwise - you would lift the plastic cover on the back of the button before pressing it. Notifications would be sent to the caregiver's phone. If after so many notifications, a reply is not given, emergency services will be contacted so that they can get to your location and make sure that you are safe.

How does O-Chain work?

Inside O-Chain, there is an impact sensor, a gps, and a button. The impact sensor allows that notification to be sent in the event of a fall or a seizure - the sensor will only go off with enough force to activate it. The GPS will allow the caregiver and emergency services to see where the O-Chain is at to get to the location of the person in need. If able, the button can also be pressed to have the same effect as setting off the impact sensor.
